چکیده

Many analytical tools have been devised to analyze CBR video coders, however only few have been applied to the VBR case. In this paper, we present a semi-Markov process model for approximating the stochastic equilibrium queue length distribution for VBR video sources multiplexed onto a constant capacity A TM channel. The sources are assumed to have two rates, and generate cells that pass through pre-buffers before joining a common queue on a FIFO basis. The model is based on a state process detined by the average rate of change of the queue length as a function of the number of active mini-sources of each type, and is solved using matrix-geometric techniques. An Access Control mechanism uses these results inside its policing function to control access to the network at call setup, Numerical results are obtained for various conditions, and compared to the ones obtained from simulation and fluid-flow models, and good agreement was achieved.

SOURCE MODEL FOR VBR-VIDEO TRAFFIC OVER ATM NETWORKS R.Gunasundari, G.Sivaradje and V.Prithiviraj

In this paper it is attempted to assist the design process of a network by simulating a traffic pattern that would appear in a network when a video sequence file is transmitted through an ATM switch. A queuing model is created by software, which simulated an ATM switch. The functions performed by the queuing model are: receiving packets; assigning an appropriate channel to each packet; adding a...

Multiserver Queue with Semi-Markovian Batch Arrivals with Application to the MPEG Frame Sequence

We consider a queueing system consisting of multiple identical servers and a common queue. The service time follows an exponential distribution and the arrival process is governed by a semi-Markov process (SMP). The motivation to study the queueing system with SMP arrivals lies in that it can model the auto-correlated traffic on the high speed network generated by a real time communication, for...

Dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme for multiple real-time VBR videos over ATM networks

This paper considers VBR transmission of multiple real-time videos over ATM networks. Multiple real-time VBR video sources are multiplexed into an ATM switch to transmit cells into the network. Given the ATM switch capacity, the problem is to dynamically allocate the required channel bandwidth for each video source such that the encoder buffer occupancy is maintained at a target level. To solve...

Evaluation of required queue size to support ABR service

The objective of the ABR service is to provide data transfer via ATM network with the cell loss ratio as small as possible. In order to achieve this goal many traffic control algorithms are discussed, e.g. EFCI, ERICA, CAPC. This paper presents approximation methods to evaluate the upper bound for the queue size in the switch. For this purpose, we assume the worst case of VBR+CBR traffic in the...

CBR Transportation of VBR MPEG-2 Video Traffic for Video-On-Demand in ATM Networks

In this paper, a CBR transport scheme for VBR MPEG-2 video-on-demand traffic in ATM networks is proposed. The basic idea is to smooth the VBR traffic to match a given bandwidth. In order to keep the continuous playback of the video, our scheme requires a suitable amount of buffer space at the receiver side and introduces an initial playback delay. We study these two performance measures as func...
